This is a picture of the two types of jet streams: the polar jet steam and the subtropical jet stream. The polar jet stream brings cold weather to a area, while the subtropical jet stream brings warm weather. The subtropical jet stream is more likely to hit Charlotte,NC because it is closer and, as you can see on the picture, we are in the orange area which means we are hit by the subtropical jet stream.

The gulf stream(red) is a warm ocean current from the gulf of Mexico. The gulf stream starts at the gulf of Mexico and runs along the coast, so if the stream starts, a couple of days later the coast of North Carolina will be effected by warm water.

This is a image of trade wides around globe. The white line(The one with ITCZ) is the equator. The trade winds closest to the equator are called the tropical easterlies. These trade winds bring cooler weather and water to the equator. Next we have the prevailing westerlies. These bring warmer weather to northern and southern places. Finally we have the polar easterlies. They bring cold weather towards the equator.
